Daily-Equivalent (Period Zero) Attendance

QuickSchools can now track and report a daily attendance equivalent, based on period or subject-based attendance. This will be an optional feature for schools that track period or subject-based attendance.

How does it work?

Schools will continue to take attendance by period or subject. However, for every school day, each student will be marked with an equivalent daily attendance. So for example, if a student is marked present for 5 out of 7 periods, QuickSchools will convert this to a daily equivalent, based on certain rules. As a result, the student may be marked Present, Absent, Tardy or Half Day Present for the day.

This daily attendance will be stored in Period Zero (hence the name “Period Zero Attendance”). When reporting attendance, the system will use / display the Daily Attendance by default. And the period / subject attendance is merely recorded for tracking / informational purposes only.

This feature is in Private Beta
Please contact support@quickschools.com to have this enabled.

Steps to Implement

1. Configure Period Zero App

To configure just head over to App Store > My Apps > hover to Enable Period Zero (Daily Equivalent) Attendance > click Configure > tick the check box for Enable Period 0.

2. Configure the Attendance Module

Head over to Attendance Module > click the Settings tab > tick the check box for Record Daily Attendance for Period/Subject Attendance

Specify which grade level should have the Period-based or Subject-based type of attendance and how many periods the attendance should be taken.

If a grade level is specified to take Subject-based attendance, don’t forget to configure it using the Configure link. Make sure that subjects are properly assigned to their respective period where teachers will take the attendance.

To verify that the Period Zero Attendance is successfully implemented, you can check the student’s attendance record. There are two ways to do this:

a. Via the Attendance module

Hover over to the Student Name > click Details link.

If you click on a certain date, the Edit Attendance window will display all the periods for the day, including the Daily attendance equivalent, rather than a single period.

b. Via the Student Profile

Under Students module > view a student profile > scroll down to the bottom > click the Attendance tab.

Please note that if the attendance taker doesn't have access to be a Global Attendance Taker, they can only view the student’s attendance calendar and won’t have the ability to edit the daily attendance equivalent.

For School Admins: To add a user as a Global Attendance Taker, head over to Settings > Turn Features On / Off > click Configure link for the Attendance module > add the name of the attendance taker or school role you want to be able to take attendance for the whole school. Usually, only school admins should be the Global Attendance Taker.
