Online Forms: Converting PDF to SVG

This manual will guide you through the process of converting a PDF fillable document to an SVG format for Quickschools Online Forms using our preferred software, PDF Studio.

Pre-requisites

Why convert to SVG?

We require converting fillable PDFs to SVG for cross-browser compatibility. This allows for responsive web display, making your document accessible and viewable across various devices and screen sizes without losing its original formatting.

We recommend using PDF Studio because it provides flexible export options, allowing you to generate a single file for the entire document with multiple pages.

Convert PDF to SVG

Step 1: Open Your PDF Document

Launch PDF Studio and open the PDF file you wish to convert. You can do this by going to File > Open or by dragging and dropping the PDF into the PDF Studio window.

Step 2: Access the Convert Options

Once your PDF is open, navigate to File > Convert to… > HTML5 / SVG.

Step 3: Choose Your Conversion Format

Within the Export Pages pop up box, you will see options for different output formats.

Choose Single HTML per document option. This works well for PDFs with multiple pages. Click OK to save the file in your preferred destination folder.

Upload the SVG code

Open your recently converted HTML file using BBEdit or Notepad++. Highlight the code from “<?xml version” up to “</svg><br>” then copy it (shortcut: CTRL+C on Windows keyboard or Command+C on Mac).

If you do not have any of the suggested text editing softwares, you can open the HTML file using Chrome browser > right click on the document > select “View Page Source.”

Highlight and copy the code as instructed above.

Go back to the Online Form packet in your Quickschools account. After uploading your PDF, click the Upload SVG button and paste the code (shortcut: CTRL+V on Windows or Command+V on Mac) in the field provided, then hit Save.

Map the Fields (Optional)

Map your fields accordingly if you want the data from the PDF to be transferred automatically to the student record upon enrollment.

If you want electronic signatures in your PDF forms, the fields should be mapped to the “Signature Field.”

Test the Form

There are two methods of testing the form:

  1. Access the form via Public URL
  2. Add a manual submission

Access the Form via Public URL

This method requires you to temporarily publish the form and generate a public URL.

Once you’ve generated the Public Form, you can click the link or copy and paste it to your browser:

This is how it will look like:

Add a Manual Submission

This method allows you to access the form without publishing the form yet.

Go to the main Online Forms screen and click the “Submissions (0)” button.

Click the New Submission button to create a test submission.

Then go to the “Show All” status filter and open the test submission.

It should look slightly similar to the public form:

Please test and ensure that the fillable fields are aligned with the texts and the mapped signature shows the “Add Signature” button if mapped.

When you’re all set, you can delete the test submission and proceed with officially publishing the form packet.
